In Manipur, internet services have been suspended for 5 days in many districts including the capital Imphal. Communal tension prevailed in the district after 3 to 4 people of a community set a van on fire on Saturday evening in Bishnupur district of the state. Keeping this in mind, the state government has taken this decision. The government has imposed Section 144 in Churachandpur and Bishnupur for the next two months. According to the information, people are protesting against the Sixth and Seventh Amendment Bills introduced by the state government.
According to the police, their first priority is to maintain law and order and peace in the tense areas. State Home Ministry Special Secretary H Gyan Prakash says that some anti-social elements are trying to spread hate speech through social media in the state.
People opposing the Sixth and Seventh Amendment Bills
In fact, on Tuesday, the BJP government led by Chief Minister N Biren Singh had introduced the Manipur (Hill Areas) Zilla Parishad Sixth and Seventh Amendment Bills. According to the protesters, these bills are not in line with their demands. Against which All Tribal Students Union Manipur (ATSUM) has been creating ruckus for several days. On Saturday, ATSUM created a lot of ruckus in many districts including Imphal.
During this several vehicles were vandalized and arson. More than 30 students were injured in the police action. At the same time, 5 tribal student leaders were arrested. They have been sent on 15 days remand. Now the student organization is demanding the release of its arrested leaders.
